Background

Taiwan Digital Talking Books Association (TDTB) is a member-supported organization dedicated to the development of advanced technology and the adoption of international standards in the production of digital talking books for people with print disabilities and dyslexia in Taiwan.

It is registered with the Taiwan Ministry of Interior as a non-profit organization and instituted according to the rules and procedures set up by the Ministry. TDTB officially began on January 10, 2004.

The goals of TDTB include:

  1. To develop or adopt the technology for the production of digital talking books according to DAISY 3 or ANSI/NISO Z39.86.
  2. To promote the adoption of digital talking textbooks and reference books for people with print disabilities.
  3. To promote cooperation and sharing of experiences with other like-minded organizations around the globe.
  4. To improve the quality of life for the visually impaired in Taiwan through computer training, counseling and conducting support groups.
 

TDTB’s scope of work

  1. To promote and produce digital talking books using DAISY format and technology. To date, TDTB has published 24 digital talking books using the DAISY format. In addition, we have cooperated with other libraries and have produced over 200 additional titles.
  2. To design, assess and evaluate websites to meet the requirement of Web Content Accessibility Guideline.
  3. To provide Computer Training Courses for the visually impaired, including screen reader software such as JAWS, NVDA, Sunshine etc. as well as MS Windows XP, Office, SKYPE.
  4. To provide the visually impaired with the info and resources they need and to enhance their confidence to reach out. Also, seminars, individual and/or group rehabilitation and counseling, support groups are conducted throughout the year.
